In August 2016, YDT was founded in Fuzhou, Fujian. The team was only a handful of people, working a route that was not exactly easy at the time — the air-freight first mile from China to Europe.
In those early years of cross-border e-commerce, most Fujian sellers still used the old approach of "finding a forwarder to consolidate a container, then finding someone to clear it at the port". With so many links in between, when something went wrong nobody could say who was responsible. Our judgment back then was simple: what sellers really needed was not the cheapest quote, but a chain where someone could be held accountable when things went wrong.
So from day one we deliberately kept our scope narrow — only European air first mile, only for cross-border e-commerce sellers. Another benefit of staying narrow was that we could watch every step of customs declaration, booking and clearance ourselves, instead of handing goods to someone else.
Air first mile has high unit prices and thin margins; it comes down to document accuracy and space stability. It took us a long time to make "documents pass on the first try" the norm.
Counting from August 2016, it has been eleven full years to this day. Looking back, many things we later achieved — our own fleet, our own bonded warehouse, our own booking — all started in that year, in this small office in Fuzhou.
